Fayetteville news reports the city chief of police Jams H. Beacon shot at 1 30 pm and died at 2 45 pm after a confrontation with Sam Murchison a 30 year old black man captured soon after. Murchison had earlier wounded John Raines and threatened Ida Moore. Local residents Benton Cresswell Underwood and 17 year old Villiers Benton assisted as the suspect fled and was later detained.
A large social reception welcomed about two hundred guests last Saturday honoring Mr and Mrs W Bryant of the Southern Conservatory of Music. The event featured refreshments and music, with guests enjoying a pleasant evening.
