Frank McGrath a Franklin merchant visited town on Saturday. Many residents travel for visits and work, with reports of arrivals, departures, and chores around Duncan and nearby ranches. A Johnston County peach from Summit NM is noted as outstanding in size and flavor.
Jones Bros World Toured Shows will visit Duncan for two performances on Friday September 6. The production promises refined atmosphere and a fast, well organized program featuring training animals Shetland ponies elephants and a cast of international acts. A free street parade precedes performances at 2 and 8 pm with doors opening one hour early.

Johnes Bros World Toured Shows returns with unmatched splendor and grandeur. Featuring feats from every land including athletic acrobatic and gymnastic displays by the world’s greatest lady and gentleman performers. Bands of music accompany the act.
The trial of Courity s Attorney George H. Crosby Jr ended when Superior Judge McAlister discharged him on a writ of habeas corpus. E W Clayton was fined for contempt for refusing to reveal bank books. Crosby refused bond, was remanded, and after stenographic review and arguments Crosby was released.
A social gathering occurred at the ranch of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Stephens on Sunday. Guests from Globe included Mr. and Mrs. Yinger, Mr. Gott Moyers, Mrs. Fee Moyers and Ruby Moyers, and Mr. Curtis Moyers with his wife from Franklin. The alfalfa ranch, shaded yard, and cool well water made the visit enjoyable, ending with a fine dinner and warm appreciation for the hospitable surroundings.
Judge Richard E. Sloan qualified today under a recess appointment as federal judge and will depart for Arizona tonight. He will preside over the coming term of the United States court. despite senate rejection of his confirmation, he receives broad congratulation from supporters and friends at the capitol.
Lieut. R. M. Cheney of the 4th Cavalry heads refugee relief in the Gila valley with headquarters at Thatcher. Of 402 refugees, 48 moved on, 80 remain unfed, 170 at Thatcher, 72 at Pima, 22 at Safford, 33 at Central, 20 at Lebanon, 7 at Eden. He has tents and can draw $1000 of a $20,000 Congress appropriation.
Philadelphia August 29 John Wanamaker America s greatest merchant and former post master general is seriously ill. His sons have been summoned from Atlantic City to be at his bedside.
Arizona women launch a statewide drive for constitutional amendment to grant voting rights. Central Committee led by Mrs Francis Mund will organize precincts and mobilize volunteers including Laura Gregg Cannon who will arrive in September to speak on why women want the ballot.
Labor Day events in Duncan featured a Morenci Odd Fellows picnic with a morning crowd and a special train home at midnight. A noon barbecue fed attendees and a baseball game pitted Duncan and Franklin combined against Morenci, ending 7 to 3 in favor of the valley team. Music and dancing closed the day as the crowd returned home content.
Mrs. Chas Tyson departed Sunday morning for a visit to Lordsburg in what appears to be a routine family trip.
Congressmen introduce a five thousand dollar bill to fund ostrich feeding and breeding research in the Bureau of Animal Industry. The measure cites 1911 ostrich feather imports totaling over 5 million and 13 thousand dollars and 316 ostriches in the U.S. per the 1910 census, urging southwestern states to expand production.
Department of the Interior in Phoenix announces that the township survey Two. 9. South Range 31 East has been received and will be officially filed September 27, 1912 at 9:00 a.m. Applications to make entries in the township will be accepted after that date. Frank H. On Saturday August 31 the Local Option vote in Duncan passed quietly with 94 to 43 against prohibition. Precincts Duncan and Sheldon reported the results, noting that two years earlier Franklin had been included when prohibitionists won by a small margin.
