The Arizona State Senate approved a general election bill for November 5 and the anti pass measure. Governor Hunt signed the juvenile court and public examiner bills. Officials expect the legislature to adjourn by Thursday.
Wade Hampton receives six day leave of absence from the Board of Supervisors. The board bought 1000 law books from Col. M. J. Egan for 1500 dollars. H. V. Bogue resigns as County Health Officer. Dr. L. A. W. Burtch is appointed to the post at the June meeting.
Special to Arizonian reports President Taft signed the three year homestead bill. The interior secretary must mail copies to every homesteader and notify them of final proof options under the new law. Carl Hayden notes issuance and printing of the act.
The governor signed a bill establishing a three-cent railroad fare to take effect September 15, reducing the prior five-cent-per-mile rate. The measure had been debated in the Arizona legislature for several years.
In Chicago the Republican presidential nomination fight between Taft and ex President Roosevelt heats up. Physicians, ambulances, extra police and emergency provisions are readied as violence potential rises. Taft leads so far, Roosevelt set to arrive this week.
The 1911 postponed annual stockholders meeting of Twin Peaks Mining & Milling Co was held May 25 1912 at Twin Peaks Camp. 398959 shares represented. J F Fraser elected president. Board includes C B Robbins D Fraser James Fraser and others. New mill planned at 100 ton capacity with $20000 cost and new equipment. mill site near Free Gold Shaft selected.
A letter from F B Moore of Los Angeles says William Wilson known as Uncle Billy died at the Soldiers Home in Los Angeles on April 9 1912. He came to Duncan valley over thirty years ago living at the Billy Wilson place now owned by William Foster and was among the first white men in the area. An old Union Army veteran with Co A 2nd Colorado Cavalry he had been an invalid for years and his death had been anticipated for some time.
At the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Supervisors on June 1 H E Brubaker was appointed auditor for Greenlee County to serve without compensation until December 31 1912 His salary will be paid by three large Greenlee mining companies to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of F A Sanders.
The first Greenlee county Board of Supervisors Casper Billingsley and Webster are indicted by a grand jury for removing and concealing official records. The Duncan Clifton road project sparked a scandal over costs and contracts with supervisor Webster allegedly discarding a plat while critics called for accountability. The three men were arrested and given bonds for the next court term.
The session concludes with bills on taxation of railroads express companies and private car lines. Education measures include deaf and blind schooling scholarships free texts and university lands. Additional items cover county affairs redistricting vacant office fills and board of supervisors procedures. Several bills amend or repeal laws, create state offices, and address licensing, holidays, weights and measures, and public service regulation.

State superintendent C. O. Case notes legislative reforms including a free text book bill, modified teacher certification requiring twelve years of teaching with six in Arizona, and no exams. A half million dollars for state aid to common schools may raise taxes 3 to 20 cents per $100. An eight month school term is mandated.
Rev John Reed of Robert Lee Texas arrived yesterday for a few weeks visit with friends and relatives. He is brother in law of J E and Judge George H Casper of Richmond. Reed last visited about two years ago with his wife who died three months ago. On this trip he is accompanied by Mr and Mrs Terry his son in law and daughter who may move to the 48th state.
