Sheriff John D. Patty in Duncan yesterday. Many locals visit and work, with marriages sales and business moves noted. Individuals include H R Sullivan Lee Wright E E Wall J M Cooper A E Hobbs and J A Billingsley among others. Community life centers on Woodman picnic business, schools, farms and local services.
A bench warrant was served on the old board as bonds of one thousand dollars were set in each case to ensure appearance at the next term of court.
Two indictments allege J H T Casper B F Billingsley and George Webster removed and secreted official records from the Greenlee county Board of Supervisors office on January 16 1912. Grand jury witnesses included Wheatley Awalt and Tunis, warrants issued, bonds set at one thousand dollars each, cases to next term.
The Democratic presidential primary in Arizona showed light turnout with some areas not holding an election. Champ Clark won the state by a large margin and Reese M. Ling was elected National Committeeman. Duncan cast a single vote against Woodrow Wilson. Eugene Brady O Neil of Phoenix won every vote for National Committeeman. Judge P C Little of Globe was chosen as delegate to the Baltimore convention with no opposition. Election board members were John Evans E W Taylor J C Page and H R Sullivan.
Ninety-five bills passed both houses and await the governor's action. two more on constitutional amendments were filed with the secretary of state. Employers liability bill SB 83 may also pass, bringing total introduced to 356 with about 27 percent enacted. The governor signed all but thirteen of the final measures, with many under detention or attached emergency clauses.
Wedding couples Norman Sieger and Claudia Aker wed at the Presbyterian parsonage in North Clifton with Rev. Curry H. Love performing. Sieger, a Clifton resident and Shannon Copper Co. employee, and the bride, sister of J. W. Aker, county school superintendent, plan to reside on Shannon Hill.
On May 30 at 5:30 pm at the bride's parents home, Mr Thomas Edwards and Miss Bessie Cauthen wed in a brief ceremony by Rev Rosal K Acuff. The couple wore blue serge and white and white lawn with pink. After June 5 they will reside in Cliff New Mexico.
A makeshift Duncan squad from Duncan and Franklin answered a request to play Lordsburg’s second team on Sunday June 2. Despite being called has beens they won 6 to 5, enjoyed a postgame dinner, and will return June 16 with a dance planned for June 15 drawing local farmers and families to support the team.
Governor Hunt named the land commission members last Monday with Mulford Winsor as chairman and Judge Wm. Moody of Thatcher and Cyrv Byrnes of Apache county as members. Winsor, once the governor's private secretary, and Leroy C. Lidd, a Globe newspaperman, were also chosen in key posts. The appointments aim to bring capable handling of land affairs in the administration.
The fourth annual Woodman of the World Lodge picnic at Clifton on May 30 attracted a large crowd from Clifton Morencia and Lordsburg. Organizers report a successful event with strong attendance, a barbecue treat, live band, and revenue from concessions, tickets, and the ball. Mr. Wall of Clifton gave the day’s address and Mr Hobbs received thanks for hospitality and support.
