Aug 20 San Bernardino reports the body of prospector Williams located eighteen miles northeast of Johannesburg in the Mojave desert. He had been missing since May and left a diary recounting a June trek marked by extreme thirst, hallucinations, and a final plea for water before his death likely on June 12 near Rattlesnake Springs.

Sheriff English of Greenlee county came to the city this week regarding the killing of his late brother by Mackay in southern Grant county several months ago. An insect is severely damaging corn in Grant county, destroying entire fields. A seven acre field that seemed to yield 70 to 80 bushels per acre now may yield fewer than ten. Drowned 8 Year Old Otho Gale at Morenci
Morenci reports the drowning of eight year old Otho Gale son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Gale formerly of Franklin. He and a companion rode a water plank at the Sand Dam near Detroit Copper Co concentrator fell in and could not swim. Despite hours of medical effort the child died and was buried in Franklin beside his brother. The Gale family thanks their Morenci and Franklin friends for sympathy and aid.

Box car crashes through house waking sleeping family
A box car smashed through a house in Santa Barbara on August 12 after derailing. It plowed into a bed where John Fields his wife and baby slept, driving the bed through a wall. The occupants survived without injury though the residence was wrecked.
