Irrigation Workshop Set for Duchesne County Courthouse

Duchesne County hosts an irrigation workshop at the Duchesne courthouse on Wednesday February 2 1966 from 10 a.m. to 3 30 p.m. Speakers include A Hale Holgate president of the Duchesne County Water Users Association Lloyd Smith secretary the Utah State University Extension agricultural agent and Leo Haueter of the Central Conservancy District. A luncheon is provided at noon and a panel discussion begins at 3 p.m. Topics cover plant soil water relations administrative management canal maintenance and water delivery.

Duchesne Schools Set February Dedications

Duchesne High School Gymnasium and Duchesne Elementary School will be dedicated February 17 in an open house with a dedicatory program. State education officials and local leaders will participate. Supt. Abplanalp and Board President Hullinger will announce details. Elementary contract went to Turner Construction Co. for 428 965 dollars and architect W Rowe Smith of Salt Lake City. High School Gym contract awarded to Kate and Gammon of Provo for 172 000 dollars with Cannon and Mullen as Salt Lake City architects.

Merrell Wins Mark Tuttle Award At Utah County Convention

Porter L. Merrell longtime Duchesne County official received the Mark Tuttle award as Utah’s outstanding county officer for 1965 at the 43rd annual Utah State Association of Counties convention in Salt Lake City. The scroll cites his energetic public service since he arrived in 1934 and his prior roles as county treasurer secretary and USACO leader.

New Telephone Exchange Office Opened in Duchesne

Theo Perkins of Mt. States Telephone and Telegraph announces completion of a new exchange building in Duchesne at Seventh and C street. Groundbreaking was Nov 9 1965. McKellar Construction Co. of Tooele built the 26 by 38 foot masonry structure for dial switching equipment with installation planned in April for future growth.

Duchesne Mothers Club March Of Dimes Drive

The Duchesne Mothers Club will march for the March of Dimes this week with Mrs. Erma Mayhew as president heading the project. The official Mothers' March is Thursday night January 27, with daytime door calls encouraged to support medical research on crippling diseases in children.

Sally Oberhansly to Crown Uintah Basin Sweetheart Queen

Sally Oberhansly of Neola a Union High School student and 1965 Sweetheart of the Uintah Basin will crown the new queen at the Uintah Basin Sweetheart Ball to be held in the Duchesne High School gymnasium on February 12.

Weekend outing at Treasure Mountain praised by Utah couples

Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Cole and friends from Duchesne, Bountiful, Tooele, and Fruitland spent a weekend in Park City. They lunched at Treasure Mountain Inn and stayed at Treasure Mountain Lodge. Mrs. Cole praised the hospitality and urged others to visit. Uintah High School defeated Duchesne 35 to 22 in a Duchesne wrestling meet Monday night.
