The Gateway Club of Duchesne held its regular meeting at Dinty Moore's Cafe on May 7 1931. Members discussed raising new recruits to meet quota and planned the annual Ladies Night for May 31 while highlighting civic work on roads water lights and mail with local business and county participation.
The Forest Service proclaims a primitive area in the central Uinta Mountains, named High Daline, covering about 250000 acres in Wasatch and Ashley Forests. It offers pioneer conditions for education and recreation with six peaks near 18000 feet and numerous small lakes surrounded by pine forests and red rock walls. Access will be restricted, with no permanent developments beyond essential administration and trapping needs.
Mrs. Garvin Evans of Heber visited the Dukes in town while a Vernal high school bus returned from Salt Lake City where students competed in drama and reading events. Vernal earned second in drama and third in reading.
Local Boy Scouts announce an annual encampment at Lagoon Cabin near Indian Canyon about 14 miles away. The weeklong camp, including meals and transportation, will cost around 3.80 dollars, cheaper than larger camps, with a balanced menu and strict supervision.
Inquiries confirm the Unitah Basin Industrial Convention will run Wednesday through Friday, August 5 to 7 at Fort Duchesne Utah. Last year about fifty thousand attendees traveled from states across the nation. The event offers lectures on agriculture home economics live stock and cooperative marketing plus the 38th Infantry Band of Fort Douglas.
Victor Duke sells the Duchesne Drug Store to P. P. Allen a registered pharmacist with twenty years of experience. Allen has worked at Tronsevelt for two years and led the University Pharmacy in Salt Lake for four years prior. Duke family will move to Heber, Duchesne community expresses good wishes.
Test and third place in track are noted as part of the Basin’s efforts to gain recognition. Max Pope of Prove visited Duchesne for a weekend, while the Duke family plans to relocate from Duchesne to Heber after selling their stake in the Duchesse Drug. Jesse I. Hartt assists with the Duchesne Drug inventory, and W. A. Paxton departs for Fillmore with his daughter. the rest of the family prepares to move.
The Duchesne Fish and Game Association organizes an outing at the junction of North Fork Duchesne and Wolf Creek with participation expected from Basin clubs and a possible Heber City turnout. Governor Dern may attend. Governor Cook and other officials may be present. Road access via Wolf Creek pass is improving and should be first class by May 8.
Miss Mildred Ames returns to Salt Lake after visiting North Fork. Hanna reports a freak of nature twin lambs with fused head and two mouths on exhibit. Stake conference at Mt. Emmons draws families including Moon and Maxwell, Hazel Bowers, Spencer. Roads open over Wolf Creek. Local moves include Wagstaff returning to Tabiona. Clark family to Tabiona for summer.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Coleman spent a few days at their ranch. Mrs. Ralph Brown visits with her mother for a few days. Fruitland played road camp ball, losing 27 to 25. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bergener returned from Midway with Joe’s mother. Hart Stallings visited Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Francis Brooks attended the funeral of Mrs. Dewey Johnson in Fountain Green. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Dahlman visited friends.
The Ven. W. F. Bulkley Archdeacon of Utah will visit St Pauls Church this coming Sunday. Holy Communion will be celebrated and a sermon delivered. Service at 3 11 20 and church school at 10 30. All are welcome to attend.
A Duchesne County unit of the American Legion Auxiliary marks Poppy Day on May 23 to raise funds for widows, orphans, and veterans. Helen Hollenbeck notes 25 000 World War I veterans have died since last Memorial Day, increasing aid needs as many seniors face poverty. The group also assists living veterans in hospitals and after discharge, funded by poppy sales.
Myton beat Montwell 12 8 in seven innings amid a fierce dust storm. New battery Joe Anderson to Roy Johnson impressed with grounders and short fields as Myton rallied from a rough start. Clarence Dean and Hmnes each scored twice. Jensen starred in left. Sunday Blue Belt defeated Myton 9 3. Colorow out, Bob Colorow pitched.
Mrs Alice Swasey of Boneta visited sister Mrs Franklin Davies on Saturday. Ephraim and Raleigh Perkins of Park City stayed with Mr and Mrs Roscoe Perkins for Mothers Day. The Sunday School plans a Mothers Day program on May 17 due to Stake Conference.

Charles Iverson chosen from 25 applicants to succeed W A Paxton as Duchesne County Schools superintendent. Iverson formerly Roosevelt Elementary principal and Provo Junior High teacher, will assume duties July first. Paxton to serve until then.
Schonian Furniture Company promotes abnormally low prices with a clearing sale started last Tuesday and continuing this week. Customers urged to visit for wide selection and bargains on furniture now and in the future.
A lively Friday May 8 dance drew a large crowd of locals with strong performances by regional musicians. The floor manager kept order as organizers promise more dances this summer, urging everyone to ready themselves for a busy season.
N A Gillis, district road engineer, says the state road commission will assume maintenance of the Duchesne Tabiona road and the Vernal Neola road starting Tuesday May 12. Funds are limited but will cover Tepalra where needed. Duchesne equipment will serve the Tatlona Duchesne road, saving money and improving the roads, with no major construction expected this year.
Mrs William hosted a Sunday dinner in honor of Mrs Gertrude Aske with guests including Mr and Mrs Marvin Kaywood Mr and Mrs Fred Curran Carl Milton and the guest of honor Mrs Aske. The Kaywoods plan travel this week for work in Brigham and nearby areas.
