James Grant Dies After Illness in Duchesne
Longtime Duchesne resident James Grant dies after a stomach cancer illness. Born in Mill Creek in 1857, he moved with his family to Duchesne in 1907 and built the Grant Hotel, serving the community with quiet leadership. He is survived by his widow, siblings, and several children. funeral services were held June 11 at the L D S church hall.

In the UNITAI E Basin Baseball League games at Vernal Ft Duchesne and Neola Roosevelt lost 25 to 2 at Ft Duchesne while Neola defeated Arcadia in a one sided game on Neola grounds Arcadia and Neola led the standings with Neola narrowly behind. The Vernal game was postponed due to pain and the Duchesne game left Roosevelt 25 to 2.

Duchesne Boy Seriously Injured in Wagon Accident
Master Clark Lusty, about 12, was thrown from a wagon when frightened horses bolted. He sustained a temporal skull fracture and scalp lacerations, his left ear severed. Dr. Bishop treated him, with further repairs by Dr. Wood. He is reported recovering.

Dotsero Cutoff Planned to Link Moffat and D and R G Western
W F Freeman, president of the railroad, says the Dotzero cutoff will be built linking the Moffat railroad with the Denver and Rio Grande Western on the western slope. The route will be about 60 miles shorter than the Union Pacific path. A contract for joint operation via the tunnel may be arranged with the Denver and Rio Grande Western. A Denver and Salt Lake Western subsidiary is being organized to build the cutoff, with tunnel leases signed by the Moffat tunnel commission.
