Highway Work Plan Authorized by Sand Commission

The Sand Commission approved road work for Heber, Poietton, and Merry Valley, using forest highway funds for maintenance and new markings. It authorized patrols on principal Bisie highways, with local authorities supplying project funding and erecting state approved land markers along interstate connections.

Irrigation District Plans South Myton Area Extension

A pending filing in Duchesne county aims to create an irrigation district that would cover about 12,000 acres in South Myton and Pleasant Valley, tied to the Taylor canal system built years ago. S. Y. Taylor of Uintah Basin Construction says the project could form the district’s base with a proposed purchase price of 352000 dollars, pending a state engineer survey and a county wide landowners meeting.

Former Myton Boy Awarded Gold Medal

Owen Burgner formerly of Myton received a diamond set field medal for four years faithful service as a member of Brigham Young University band under Professor Robert Sauer. Burgner will teach in Lyman Wyoming. Sauer praised his diligence and high musical proficiency.

Lakes in Uintah Basin Closed for Spawning Season

State fish Commissioner Dave N. Madsen ordered the closure of all Uintah Basin lakes above 7000 feet due to late trout spawning. Closures cover headwaters of Provo, Duchesne, Tock, Creek, Uintah, Green and Bear rivers and other streams, with Currant Creek and Biz Cottonwood Creek in Salt Lake and Wasatch counties also restricted until July 1 to protect private property and sporting access.

Roosevelt Myton American Legion to stage Broadway style revue

The American Legion chapters of Myton and Roosevelt will present a Broadway style revue on June 4 and 5 featuring a chorus of students and local performers. Oil men eye South Myton bench drilling

W. G. Gallagher chief geologist of the Rocky Mountain division and G. T. Hansen of Utah Southern Oil visited South Myton bench and Castle Peak mine. They plan a well on South Myton, estimate 800 meters to lane owners, and may start within sixty days after moving equipment from Duchesne.

Memorial services at Myton Opera House and cemetery

Memorial services were held at the Myton Opera House with a program including community singing prayers readings talks and musical selections by Ed Wooten Lynn Stone Marguerite Blaine and others. Engineers Take Over Duchesne to Dead Ox Flat Road

Representing the Bureau of Public Roads and state maintenance, engineers visited Duchesne to formally accept the Duchesne to Dead Ox Flat road from contractor A G Young and company. Bridges over Strawberry were already accepted. Contractors will stay about two weeks to finish, some materials missing, with bids for Dead Ox Flat to Wraitland likely soon.

A USA letter notes Rev. Frank Connor will speak at St. Pauls Church in Duchesne Sunday at 11 AM. Connor visited last year during vacation and left in early fall to attend The Church Divinity School in San Francisco.

Salt Lake Files On Duchesne Rockcreek Water Use

Salt Lake City filed an application with the state engineer seeking use of water from the Duchesne watershed and storage in the upper Provo to serve a projected Salt Lake population increase of 250000. Preliminary review considered possible 400 second feet direct flow for elast months, with a damsite in the upper Provo river and an anticipated large river runoff. The first application asks for 50 feet direct flow and 30000 feet of dam site storage containing about 32000000 gallons.

Duchesne Board Chooses Boneta Site For Junior High

At a Duchesne district meeting at Mt Emmons the board voted to keep Central Junior High at Honeta for the coming year and to build a new modern junior high near Mt Emmons. The land will be donated and the school will serve Mt Immons Altonch Boneta Bluebell Talmage Apaleo and nearby localities. Duchesne city Roosevelt and the county senior high will also be maintained.

President Coolidge vetoes the McNary Haugen farm relief bill. The Senate votes four short of overriding the veto. The measure includes an equalization fee intended mainly for marketing purchases, declared constitutional by the attorney general.

The Dry Gulch Irrigation company held a stock sale on Thursday led by President E. H. Burgess with Elroy Wilkins as auctioneer. The sale was probably the smallest the company has had in five or six years.

Duchesne Oil Test Abandoned After Prolonged Effort

The Duchesne oil test well has been abandoned by Midwest Refining, with operations halted and the crew to depart in about two weeks. John Dugan will supervise moving the equipment, and the Clyde Earry permit site was drilled to 2760 feet before adverse conditions and a slipping shale forced a cement shut-off and eventual quitting. Geologists suggest the well may yet hold oil in the lenticular formation, but the test failed due to location and costs.

Memorial Day Observed at Duchesne by Legion and Auxiliary

Under the American Legion and Auxiliary, Duchesne observed Memorial Day with an audience program including invocations, recitals by Melvin Paulson and Clifton Mickelson, and songs by Faun Smith and Barlow. Mrs. Winslow directed the "In Flanders Fields" recital, followed by an address by Rev. Charles Sebold of Vernal and a benediction. Afterward, many attendees visited the cemetery to place flowers and remember the dead.

Utah State Press Association Summer Convention in Utah

Members of the Utah State Press Association plan a three day summer pilgrimage June 16 to 18 to Price and Uintah Basin for the annual convention. An auto caravan will tour Coalville and Duchesne with lunch and dinner events. visits include Myton, Roosevelt, Vernal Lions Club hosting, and a stop at the Dinosaur Monument near Jensen.
