Duchesne Oil Test Abandoned After Prolonged Effort
The Duchesne oil test well has been abandoned by Midwest Refining, with operations halted and the crew to depart in about two weeks. John Dugan will supervise moving the equipment, and the Clyde Earry permit site was drilled to 2760 feet before adverse conditions and a slipping shale forced a cement shut-off and eventual quitting. Geologists suggest the well may yet hold oil in the lenticular formation, but the test failed due to location and costs.
