Ashley Valley Pioneer Dies at Vernal
William Preece of Vernal died Thursday at his home in Vernal at age 7. He was among the first White men in Ashley Valley and his children were among the first White children born there. Survived by widow Mars and several children including William, Claire, Ida, Elizabeth, and Neil Preece, plus brothers and sisters in Utah. Funeral services were held in Vernal last Sunday.

A funeral was held in Duchesne for a fourteen month old child taken ill with pneumonia. Relatives including Mrs Wilford McCorkie and Dr. Mills Harris from Roosevelt attended. The remains were buried in Duchesne Cemetery as a large crowd showed sympathy.

Hog Receipts Near Record at Salt Lake Stockyards
Hogs received at the Salt Lake Union stockyards in January totaled 65 035, nearing the record for a month set in November 1924 at 55 470. The January hogs were the second largest on record for Salt Lake yards, while hogs slaughtered at the packing plant rose 4 25 percent to about 7000. Most hogs came from Utah and Idaho, with total livestock receipts at the yards 112 020 lead. additional hogs 55 03 a, sheep 53, LLG, cattle 4776 and horses 93. Market outlook points to stronger February as heavy corn belt supplies ease. Sheep and lamb shipments to Salt Lake yards head toward Los Angeles and San Francisco packers and markets.
