Bobby Jones, 22, advances to the final of the Amateur Championship at Merion, seeking his fourth major title of the year. He defeats Jess Sweetser nine and eight, dominating the afternoon round after a solid morning showing, while Gene Homans and Charley Seaver battle to an epic semifinal.

Rev Z D Z Binden and Rev Z W McNeal spent several days in Birmingham. Vernon Colling of Blakely Ga was weekend guest of his parents. Mrs J C Quillin and Miss Julia Quillin hosted a bridge party for Mrs Glenn Gibson of Bacon Ga with four tables of play. High score won by Mrs Albert Hughes. Cut prize to Mrs Bush Cox. Grady Holman and family of Blakely were weekend guests. Hartford PTA opened its year with meeting led by Mrs J F Ford. Rev A D Zhibden gave welcome, Timrothy McGee read, Nee Windham sang. Punch and cake served. About 100 guests attended a party at G H Herring Jr home for teachers. Herring and wife later visited Birmingham. Hartford residents also visited Birmingham.

In a rain soaked Wiregrass stadium the Panama City Florida Tornado suffered a decisive defeat at the hands of Coach Tubb’s Dothan Tigers, 45 to 0. Ispy and Ford led scorers while Panama ends were repeatedly beaten by the Tigers strong forward wall and sharp plays. Spectators, led by idolene Hoyle, Elsie Youngblood, and Frances Hall, cheered despite the weather.
