In Savannah Georgia on September 26 a group of ten convicts overpowered a rear guard on a road project truck. One inmate was shot and killed, nine others escaped. The fugitives seized a pistol, two shotguns and an axe. one gun and the axe were later found. Five prisoners remained on the vehicle, offering no escape. Details of the fatal shooting were not immediately learned.
