TVA Chief Backs Cooperation With Alabama Agencies

Montgomery reports TVA director David E. Lilienthal says TVA will cooperate with Alabama state agencies. The letter, dated September 25, was released by the Alabama Public Service Commission as it weighs TVA attendance at an October 23 hearing in Birmingham on the $2,200,000 purchase of Alabama Power Company properties. The commission had urged TVA to send representatives to a prior hearing on municipal distribution systems sales in North Alabama towns, which TVA declined. Lilienthal cited the need for extended consideration of public questions involved in the proposed sale and its wider implications.

Britannia Ship Named by Queen Mary in Clyde Ceremony

The Britannia, first of two Cunard liners later merged with White Star, was launched after a speech by King George with Prince of Wales and Ambassador Bingham present.
