Short Staple Costs Farmers Large Sum

Cotton merchants report drought driven short staple across sections of the Atlantic States and Georgia with penalties up to 10 dollars per bale. They urge use of selected seed and proper fertilizer to restore staple quality and prevent future losses. Mr Malone, a longtime cotton buyer, is expected to lead efforts at upcoming meetings to plan remedies.

Decatur Realtor Dies on City Street

Z. D. Whitman of Decatur prominent in real estate and insurance died suddenly in the street from heart failure. He had complained of a slight indisposition earlier but his condition was not thought serious. Funeral arrangements had not been completed.

Opelika Men Visit Dothan In Interest Of Route 241

Dorsey led a delegation of 12 Opelika citizens to Dothan at 4 pm to press for the Florida short route No. 8 and No. 241 through Opelika and Dothan. A county committee including B. G. Farmer Will Lee LC Exell mayor and E. M. Weatherly was appointed to work with other town committees on the current highway route.

20 Year Old Convict Lynched in Camp Incident

The warden said the man who attacked the girl did not leave the convict camp yesterday, confirming the lynching of a 20 year old Black inmate. The remark was recorded as the incident was expressed today by camp authorities.

Cotton Market Eases Amid Hedge Pressure in New York

In New York on Sept 25 cotton eased after a brief rally as hedges and general selling weighed on prices. Trade demand absorbed contracts with each point down and liquidations appeared in old and new October months. Weather showed rains in Louisiana and Mississippi with scattered showers in Alabama and Georgia. The market held steady with hedge selling largely absorbed by trade buying as speculators remained cautious.
