Houston 4-H Boys Profit from Sweet Potatoes in County
Houston County 4 H Club members under Assistant County Agent Clark Rudder raised 30 acres of sweet potatoes this season. Boys sold slips and vine cuttings from the mother patch to fund club activities, then harvested and marketed potatoes, earning notable profits per boy with examples like Gene Nowell who netted about 88 dollars on a quarter-acre after costs. The program highlights the viability of peppers and cotton as alternatives, and the club plans to expand next year.
