Scott-Paine Predicts Finish as Miss Britain Goes The Distance
Hubert Scott-Paine, British challenger to Gar Wood in the Harmsworth Trophy race, says his Miss Britain VII will be in at the finish despite 4 to 1 odds against victory. The diminutive all-metal boat, 24.5 feet long and 3,800 pounds, features unusual design with a covered cockpit and water cooled exhausts, aiming for speed and balance to outpace the larger Miss America XII. Mrs Gar Wood quips it looks like cooking gear, while Scott-Paine notes the engine and hull innovations could boost future chances if he finishes.
