James F Bowden Dies At Blakely
James Franklin Bowden 62 of Columbia died Sunday afternoon in a Blakely hospital. He had lived in Cotarolta six years and served on the Columbia city council during which time water and school systems were improved. He was a member of the Columbia Baptist Church. Services will be held today at 1 pm at the Columbus Baptist Church with Rev Nail officiating. Burial will be in Columbus cemetery. He is survived by daughters Mrs Robert Howard of Tuscaloosa and Stella Jones of Los Angeles and several grandchildren. Pallbearers are L W Sesbern Bob EWott T E Bryan M L Oakley Camp Blackwell and W F Oskley Jr. Johnson-Withersm Funeral Homes in charge.

125 Women Attend Demonstration Meet
About 125 women from 23 Home Demonstration Clubs in Houston County attended the Achievement Day program at the Houston Memorial Library. A patriotic service honored mothers with sons in the armed forces. Mrs. H. H. Beasley of Crosby was named Mother with the most sons, five. Other mothers noted were Mrs. J. C. Evans Hicks-Beulah with four sons and Mrs. Bim Weeks Vicksburg with three. For each son in service, a mother pinned an American flag on a globe marking his station. New council officers were installed: Mrs. Dan Newton Kinsey as president, J. K. Newton Bis Creek as vice president, and Mrs. B. S. Melton as secretary-treasurer. County agent spoke on Farm Organization and Corporal Ethel Wilson Napier Field spoke on Women in War News.
