Chester Pearce, arrested earlier for public drinking, died in a county jail cell after being placed alone for sobering. Sheriff B G Farmer said Pearce was brought in at about 3 38 p m and found dead around 6 p m by a fellow inmate who raised the alarm. Coroner and county authorities were notified.
