Dagger murder kills New York mother of five

New York Oct 11 AP police report the death of Gemma Pignataro 35 mother of five after she left to tend a neighbor’s sick child. Her body was found crushed in a car near a tree with a broken jugular vein. Detectives questioned two men including the car owner and a man once allied with Al Capone.

Custody Hearing For Winnie Ruth Price At Judge Pearce

The future home of Winnie Ruth Price, eight, whose father H C Price Jr is serving life for murder, rests with Judge H A Pearce after a custody suit filed by Nancy Price, the paternal grandmother, against uncle Reuben Wright. The child, previously with her grandmother in Newville Wright, was brought to trial by Wright who escorted her from Ashford. A Geneva jury had found Price guilty of first degree murder after 14 hours of deliberation and recommended life imprisonment. The mother was killed on November 9 near Hartford. another defendant, Wallace Bowen, was acquitted. The child remained with paternal grandparents during the trial, with no decision announced yet.

Mrs Bates' Mother Dies at Fort Deposit

Mrs Bates’ mother T M Falk aged 74 and mother of J C Bates of Dothan died Friday at Fort Deposit. Funeral and burial were held at Bethel Cemetery nine miles northeast of Fort Deposit. She reportedly died after illness and was survived by several daughters and grandchildren including Mrs J M Falk of Fort Deposit and Mrs J A Kerper of Cathcart Texas. Dr Bates attended the service as counsel for Ward Two.

In Jacksonville Florida on October 2 1929 or 1930 trial of George W Courson and Solomon Higginbotham former camp officials for first degree murder in the death of Arthur Maillefert 22 a convict at Sunbeam road prison camp heard sensational testimony from a former trusty Bob Biske alias admitting involvement in manufacturing subtle evidence. Jurors toured the sweat box mess hall and stockade as two bloodhounds bayed near the camp. Prosecutors and defense clashed over motions for acquittal while reports indicated the sweat box may have been altered to increase ventilation and space.

Man Dies Unexpectedly After Field Work

Schools Face Closure Without State Aid, Madrid Principal Warns

Madrid October 11 The Madrid School may close soon unless the state provides relief. Principal C.B.E. Ray told a Parent Teacher Association meeting that the Madrid PTA endorsed the income tax measure and the 20 million bond issue proposed in Alabama. Boy Dies of Tetanus After Woodcutting Injury

Athan Hoyette, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Boyette of New Brocton, died in a Dothan hospital Sunday night from tetanus after injuring a toe while chopping wood two weeks earlier.
