Bank Robbery Strikes Metairie Bank In New Orleans Area

Five or six armed men robbed the Metairie Bank on the Jefferson Highway before noon. Masked bandits with shotguns and pistols entered the bank, restrained staff, and took an undetermined amount of cash. They fled toward the river road in a car with a confederate at the wheel. L. D. Barrett, the bank manager, was singled out during the heist.

Prominent Methodist Minister Dr W W Pinson Dies in Nashville

Dr William W Pinson 76 longtime secretary of missions for the Methodist Episcopal Church South died at his Nashville home after a three month illness. native of Tennessee and author of mission histories he served in Texas Georgia and Kentucky and led major fundraising for centenary missions. Survived by widow and four sons Wallace Theo Paul and Murrell.

California faced extreme heat with San Francisco and San Jose posting new yearly highs while Mojave reached 100. San Jose hit 94, surpassing the prior 1930 record. Other cities reported 92 in San Francisco with Los Angeles Sacramento Fresno and Red Bluff, Salinas at 95, and San Diego experiencing a dry hot wind. 102 Bales Cotton Pooled Yesterday

With 102 bales pooled yesterday the process started slowly at the county farm agent’s office as only three bales were received by 2 pm. Planters were picking cotton and expected large quantities pooled by week’s end. Grade improved daily as sunshine dried the wet fiber.

Three Sentenced To Die In India

Three of those accused in the assassination of Mr Saunders, assistant superintendent of police, in Lahore in 1928, were found guilty and sentenced to death by the special tribunal today. Seven others received life transportation, one to seven years rigorous imprisonment. Another was given five years transportation and three were acquitted.

Cotton Market Report from Dothan and New York futures

Today's cotton market notes from T. W. Palmer & Co. show Dothan spot bids at mid and low levels with prices around 0.50 to 0.55. Futures in New York and nearby months move higher, with Dec to May contracts testing new highs and July futures peaking near 1090. Overall, both spot and futures display modest gains across mid October trading.

Neely Freed of Old Murder Charge in Texas
