His hitting and fielding helped Selma win the pennant for the first half and clinch the region for the second half, as Sox chase him away from the Steers roster in the Texas league.

Confederate Vets Receive Pensions

Confederate veteran pensions are being paid for the last quarter in the Probate Judge's office on the first floor of the county courthouse. Pensions will be paid throughout October. By noon today, 42 pensions had been disbursed to veterans and widows.

David Jacobson, rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, spoke on The Trend of Modern Science and the Basic Principles of Life at the Kiwanis Club program at the Houston Hotel. Miss Bernice Meyrovitz played violin numbers, with Mrs. Quin Flowers at the piano, and the club sang under C. R. Ramsey’s direction.

Strikers Return to Work in Kentucky Coal Field

Barboursville Kentucky Oct 1 AP the only reported trouble in eastern Kentucky mines ended as 209 strikers returned to work after a week away at the Anchor Black Coal Company Col lery Brush Creek field. They accepted the former two piece wage scale of 36 cents a ton, led by organizers. The plant will resume six days weekly as conditions improve toward full operation.

California grape control board tests fee plan amid surplus

Growers representing 5 percent of California grape production authorize a $2,000,000 annual fund to buy and remove surplus on the vine. The board plans to purchase 378,000 tons of white grapes used for raisins to stabilize prices. By removing the surplus, the remaining crop and raisin markets may regain demand, with by products absorbing only a small share of the 375,000 ton surplus.

Mrs Sally Rogers Dies at Son's Home in Birmingham

Mrs Sally Rogers 60 widow of W A Rogers Sr died at 12 20 PM at the Birmingham home of her son W A Rogers Jr on Adams Street near Florat after a heart attack She had traveled recently from Birmingham to Dothan to visit her son Survived by three sons J W Rogers of Detroit Mich A C Rogers of Birmingham and W A Rogers Jr of Dothan and four daughters Miss Mary Rogers of Dothan Mrs G K Tabor of Birmingham Mrs W J Bailey of Talladega and Mrs Lionel Morris of Birmingham Funeral arrangements have not been announced and the body will be carried to Birmingham for burial.
