Convicts Escape Across Georgia Prison and Car Pursuit

Derby pack of inmates led a prison office breakout in Douglas. Byrd seized a gun and fired, freeing seven convicts who commandeered cars and fled along a rain soaked highway toward Taltoall State Prison. Georgia officials, including Wiley Moore, ordered pursuits and investigations as police recaptured some and recovered vehicles while others were abandoned in the storm.

Funeral services for Mrs Fanny Forrester conducted at Cowarts

Funeral services were held yesterday at Cowarts Baptist Church for Mrs Fanny Pickle Forrester seventy one who died late Saturday at her home in Cowarts. Burial followed in Smyrna cemetery with Fellows and Forrester in charge. Surviving are two daughters two step daughters two sons several grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Committee Changes Mind On Tax Again

Washington AP reports the House Ways and Means Committee again changed course on liquor taxation raising the rate from eight to ten dollars. The move would add about 487 million annually in revenue and lift the general revenue measure total to about 2.25 billion, surpassing administration aims. Ten Men Die In Nellie No 1 Mine Explosion

Nellie No.1 32 mine in Boone County West Virginia exploded Saturday night at 7 20 p m. Ten men were killed and one miner survived with critical injuries after the blast trapped an 11 man section.
