Building permit rules ease for new homes in June

Joe Roney administrator of J. S. Roney’s estate sues Earl Moody Moring for 10000 dollars in Houston Circuit Court. Moring received a three year probation after pleading guilty to second degree manslaughter for the Dothan Headland road death of J. S. Roney. The complaint says he negligently operated the car on Oct 8 196, striking Roney as he stood behind a parked truck, causing fatal injuries.

Governor James E. Folsom dodged queries about Henry Wallace’s planned June 11 visit to Montgomery. Wallace was invited to speak at Cramton Bowl by Gould Beech, editor of The Southern Farmer. Oil Truck Crashes Into Small Garage Near Dothan

An oil truck left U S Highway 84 near Alabama 52 east of Dothan on Wednesday afternoon and crashed into a small garage. Driver J D Sumberling of DeFuniak Springs Fla said a front wheel locked when brakes were applied causing the truck to jackknife and leave the road. The garage and a city light pole were damaged but the driver escaped injury.

Lightning Sparks Dothan Fire and Shock Hit Woman

A Wednesday storm in Dothan caused a simultaneous strike on Mrs. E. J. Buntin’s home at 210 West Troy Street and a veterinary hospital across the city. The bolt followed electric wires into the house, starting a small fire quickly put out by the fire department. Mrs. Buntin, shaken but unhurt, learned of the strike en route to the hospital.

Two Damage Suits Settled Out Of Court

Two damage suits and an assumpsit were settled by agreement in Houston Circuit Court. Hatus M. Coker, executrix of Hosea Coker, sued the Bl Fy Goodrich Co for $2,400 and $25,000 in damages and $504.45 on the assumpsit. Judgments awarded $300 in each damage case and $294.15 on the assumpsit. The suits claim Hosea Coker, ill in bed, was urged to report for a conference, leading to his discharge as Dothan store manager and contributing to his illness and death.

Repair and installation work notices at multiple addresses

A list of home repair and installation bids includes Mrs. Gladys W. Cantey to repair a residence at 108 Commonwealth Court for $280 and Milton Lurie to install an attic fan at 1205 West Main Street for $250. Additional jobs include residence repairs at 610 Frazier Alley for $300.

Motor Vehicle Collision on Graceville Road Near Dothan

A two vehicle crash occurred on Graceville Road about eight miles south of Dothan involving C. W. Johnson of 4 S. Oates St. Dothan and Hal Hiram Wilson of Tulsa Oklahoma. Wilson said Johnson cut in front while passing. Johnson claimed no car behind and signaled. No injuries reported and damage estimated at 150 dollars.

Teacher pay funds and tenure law stir Alabama districts

In Selma and Gadsden teachers appeared to ignore the Montgomery resolution while Gadsden officials said most of its 447 teachers would return in the fall. Huntsville reported no action contemplated. Supt. A. R. Meadows cited the state tenure law, contracts remaining in effect until superseded or canceled. He sought an attorney general ruling to apply the law to Montgomery and Fayette County cases.

Floridian Arrested On Auto Theft Charge

Claude Brock of Dothan was arrested in Marianna Florida on grand larceny charges for stealing a car from Anderson Motor Co in Dothan. He reportedly drove the vehicle to Florida where highway patrol arrested him on a driving while intoxicated charge. The car was recovered and Brock will be returned to Dothan after Florida disposition.
