Farmers Home borrowers to receive prizes for 1947 work

Houston County Farmers Home Administration announces a contest among 93 loan recipients for top performance in corn peanut and cotton yields maintenance of buildings soil conservation home improvement and more. Prizes donated by local merchants will reward outstanding effort at the next annual borrowers meeting chaired by Supervisor Burleson and Mrs Bernice A Pittman.

Rains Boost Peanut Crops In Southeast

Southeastern peanut farmers, after planting only three percent less than 1946 acreage, benefit from rains that nourish crops. Demand remains light for cleaned and shelled peanuts while mills produce about 70 million pounds in April. Meal prices rise, and carats of men in the Southwest fetch around 61 to 64 dollars per ton.
