Cotton prices opened 15 points higher on local buying and cover on over Sunday rains in Arkansas but lack of outside demand caused a late slide as forecasts favored mostly fair weather west. Weather showed heavy rains across north central and northeast Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee with six to seven inches in parts of Arkansas and Mississippi.

Bankhead Attacks Heflin and Thompson in Alabama Speech

In a Dothan address John Bankhead denounced Heflin as unDemocratic and warned that Thompson lacks party loyalty. Benton stock man dies from swimming park accident

Curtis Kenan of Benton, a well known Lowndes county stock man, died in Selma hospital from injuries suffered when he dived into a shallow water hole at a swimming park. He left a widow Mrs. Alice Thompson Kenan of Montgomery and his parents Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Kenan of Benton, plus two sisters. Funeral services will be at Benton tomorrow with burial there.

Hammond Engineer Tries Leap to Avoid Car on Track

In Hammond Louisiana an engineer on the Illinois Central tied brakes to jump a locomotive off the rails to avoid an automobile stalled on the track. The attempt failed. the engineer Leon Bud Ford 5 and fireman Harry Watts were fatally injured along with 14 year old J P Wall Jr of Hammond. The crash scarred both men before they died en route to a McComb hospital.
