A First Methodist Church morning service features a gong titled Song of Mother with words by Dothanians and music by Mrs. Addie A. Wit ton. Soloist Joseph Wright and a group performance of Spirit of Motherhood (Jena Branscombe) are planned along with The Old Refrain vol i solo by Mrs. Elmer Pollan. A Lion Club supper at the Lewis home details decor and readings. Mrs. W C Smith to host a Sunday piano recital with advanced students at the high school auditorium.
The Mary Sunday School class of Lafayette Street Methodist Church held its monthly social in the church hall. Hostesses included Mrs. Jack Coe, Mrs. Neil Gregory, Mrs. Charles Williams, Mrs Dan Betl, Bre. James, Betty, and several others. Piano by Mrs. Bernard Whitaker. devotional by Mrs. Alton Palmer. Prize winners were Mrs. Cecil Walston and Mrs. Tullis Free.
L B Clark attended the Lions Tri State convention in Montgomery on May 8. Numerous residents, including Mrs L B Brunson, Edwin Jones of Wilmington, Mrs Lena Jones, Mrs Don Donaldson, Mrs A E Hutto, Miss Aileen Hutto, Maude Bowdoin, CC Holley and many others shared visits with relatives in Enterprise Troy Pensacola and surrounding towns over the past week. The piece lists worldly locals visiting kin, guests at homes, hospital stays, birthdays and travel, with scattered references to military families and university connections.
Mrs. H. H. Hall presented a group of piano pupils in an evening recital at the Houston Memorial Library. The program opened with "America the Beautiful" sung by the girls with piano accompaniment, including selections such as Distant Bells, The Postman, Rain on the Roof, Swans on the Lake, and Twilight pieces, culminating in Beethoven's Sonata Pathétique Opus 13.
The Samson Study Club met at the community center for a spring themed event with welcomes by President Mrs. H L Wood and a response by Mrs. C G Holley. Mrs Irene J Duke received the club trophy for her review of In the Pink. a memorial service for Mrs Vina Boyd Mizell was held by Mrs E S Parrish.
SAMSON Special-Cycles of the Baptist Womans Missionary Society met Monday afternoon at the church for their Royal Source program. The president Mrs H J Wood presided, with Mrs Allen Wise as secretary. Devotional was led by Mrs John K Page. The program subject Women Undergirding the World was discussed by several members. Meeting time was changed to 3 39 o clock. Member of Circle 2 served refreshments.
The Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority Sampson Chapter held its year’s final meeting at the home of Mr and Mrs Charles C Smith with hostesses present Supper was served on the patio Founders Day program led by president Mamie M Murdock honored founders Marg Carrie B Phreaton Emily T Moore and Nell R Latimer Two vocal selections were performed by Nell Windham and Louise Maddox A review of Pathway to the Stars by Charla Kane was presented with guests from multiple local towns and universities joining in a luncheon note about forthcoming gatherings and visits from several family members and friends
The Cottonwood FFA and FHA held a joint social at the Cottonwood swimming pool Tuesday night with swimming games and a picnic lunch for 123 attendees. Miss Daphne Sue Wilkinson led games with Barbara Cherry and Betty Joyce Sellers assisting. George Herring chaired the program with Shirley Hughes Merita Rudd Jimmy Rolls Charles Ray McCord and Emmitt Benton on the committee. Charles Ray McCord is FFA president and Mary Joe Kirkland FHA president.
Chipley High announces Madalyn Cox as valedictorian for the 1951 year based on scholarship. Frank Tobias earns salutatorian honors. Cox, daughter of Mr and Mrs Leon Cox, edited The Tiger Scratch and was Homecoming Queen. Tobias, son of Mr and Mrs Frank Tobias Sr., is active in Key Beta and Dramatic clubs.
Open house will be held at the Practical Nurses School at Mar pur Field Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to noon and at the Fraser-Ellis School of Nursing Saturday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. All girls interested in the nursing profession, their mothers, and teachers are invited to attend. Bennett family members will visit Atlanta and Bristol to see relatives and a graduating student at Ring College.
Dr and Mrs C J Ray of New Orleans announce the birth of two daughters born May 10. The mother, formerly Betty Kurlton of Brownwood Texas, is noted. The baby's paternal grandmother is Mrs W J Ray of Dowton.
