The Mullen Hotel on North Fooster Street will reopen Saturday morning with R. Newsom as manager. Newsom, known among drummers and travelers, previously ran Hotel Newsom and plans to modernize Mullen with lavatories and running water, operating on the American plan with meals by Dan G. Baker.

A Sunday night fire in Russellville caused about 25 000 dollars in damage to the tidings building and several adjacent structures including the Franklin hotel and clothing store. The Franklin hotel, run by Charles McGrae, saw multiple occupants leave in their night clothes, and a fireman named Rufim Nance was injured. Insurance partially covers the losses.
