Remains Of Two Doolittle Fliers Brought To Shanghai
The remains of two Doolittle fliers killed in a sea crash were brought to Shanghai as a Five-Colonel commission observed executions of three other airmen by Japanese authorities. Capt Chase J Nielsen named as sole survivor identified the two later graves of Donald Edgar Fitzmaurice and William J Dieter. Lt Dean Hallmark of Dallas piloted the plane wrecked off the China coast in April 1942. Proceedings before the commission included motions to dismiss charges. Roosevelt’s pledge to hold Japanese officials responsible was read.
