Third Tuberculosis Conference Held in Houston County

The third in a series of tuberculosis control conferences was held at the Houston County health department auditorium with ten public health officials from district counties and State representatives. Attendees included Miss Lucia Sweeton and E. H. Gentry along with W. Ty Porter and Mrs. C. J. Collins. A roundtable discussion involved all present. The final conference is set for March 24 in Dothan.

Livestock arrivals at eight plants rise in southern states

Livestock arrivals at eight major packing plants across Albany Columbus Moultrie Thomasville and Tifton Georgia along with Dothan Alabama and Jacksonville Tallahassee Florida totaled 300 cattle 50 calves and 3100 hogs. Hog buying was active with prices generally up about 25 cents. Medium to choice butchers over 180 pounds sold at 25.75 to 26. A few tonghauls reached 26.25. Heavier hogs 240 pounds and up sold down to 23.75. 140-180 pounds mostly 25.25 with some at 25.50. 140-160 pounds largely 24.25-24.50. 120-140 pound pigs 19.50-22.25. 90-120 pounds 14.75-18.50. Medium and good sows ranged 20.50-23.75.
