Auburn Alabama June 18 AP The boll weevil arrives this year with mixed feelings among cotton planters due to low cotton prices and high poison costs. County agents report heavy emergence but few effective toxin applications. Cotton shows delayed June advance and fertilizer use remains low while better rains reduce yellowing. Planting is mostly complete though late corn in the north remains. Farm labor is ample with families and women cannning as they contribute through summer and into fall.
