In Prattville Alabama Mrs Rittie Williams received the Silver Star posthumously awarded to her son Jack Williams for gallantry near Bone Miss New Gaines. Col Bowling and Lt Col Roy Jones delivered the citation at the Williams farmhouse. Jack Williams died in World War II while volunteering to storm Japanese positions.

Private First Class Denny Tate Meeker, twenty nine, of Dothan, previously listed missing in action in North Africa since December, is now reported dead. He was a brother of HL 2 Meeker and F. L. Meeker, formerly with Faulkner Packing Company, and entered the Army in December 1941. His mother, Mrs. Mary Meaker of Bonifay, was notified by the War Department in March that he was missing in action. she received word this week that he is dead.
