Rolfe Visits Troy Tigers Prospects Amid Financial Hopes

Robert A. Red Rolfe, Detroit Tigers minor league director, visited Troy in the Alabama State League evaluating prospects and noting two or more could rise above Class D. He praised Cabanaw and Odenheimer as top infield and strong-hitting talents, while saying Troy’s club is improving and self sustaining is the goal. Rolfe remains cautious about Detroit’s cross-division prospects and hints at modest optimism for next year. He also defends Hal Newhouser against wartime-pitcher rumors, calling him a great pitcher who will compete for years. The Tigers, meanwhile, trail in the pennant race with daylight between Troy and rivals.
