Information office reports Cadets from 52 colleges will finish a six week camp against The Camp Spring revival starting yesterday and running through Saturday with Ben Windham as visiting preacher. Homecoming will be observed Friday. The Rev Clyde Peterson is pastor.
A New York dispatch reports heavy rain across the eastern United States disrupted hat shipments from Ecuador. The change forced Ecuadorian producers to switch from steamers to air transport, with Pan American-Grace Airways moving over 25,000 pounds of Panama hats out of Ecuador to meet demand.
A man tried to cash two ten dollar notes at Upper Avenue National Bank in Chicago. The notes were banknotes issued by the old State Bank of Illinois in 1831 and largely worthless. Bank officials learned the bills had been depreciated since 1826 and later burned by the legislature. The research showed the notes were still legally receivable by the state treasurer for taxes and dues, so the man was advised to attempt tax payment with them.
Probate court grants Mor ria A Burkett and Wyatt L Burkett authority as executors of Mrs Melia E Burkett deceased. Citizens with claims must present them within the legal period or face bar. North Dakota note reports a farmer using DDT on cattle with no relief from flies.
SMATLEHURST Miss in AP report says the Dentville shooting of Sheriff Julius Harper during an arrest will be presented to the Le Pied County grand jury today. Two Negro suspects German Fulgham and his father Johnny are held in Hinds County jail. No charges yet filed.
Federal State Market News details salable receipts and price ranges for cattle calves hogs and sows at Montgomery Union Stock Yards. Trade steady to active with most categories showing mild price gains or softness versus last Friday. Cattle mainly 16 to 24 per hundredweight and hogs 20 to 28 per hundredweight across weights with various classes listed.
In Rochester Minnesota Goldie Davis a 15 year old farmhand files as Republican rival to Governor Luther Youngdahl. He has never held office and offers little explanation saying he will discuss motives after votes begin.
The State Liquor Board set a flat 75 cent retail price per fifth on popular wines to standardize mid priced wine and prevent price wars. Chairman Gregory of Oneonta said the move aims to curb throat cutting. The price takes effect Sept 1 with the board’s general price list.

Funeral services for Charlie Ar lena Love of Blakely and Ashford origins were held at Howard's Grove Church with Rev Fate Rice officiating. Interment followed in the local cemetery. Love, 59, born in Ashford, operated a Blakely grocery from 1943. Survived by wife Della Love Watson, daughter Effie Zorn, four sons Alvie Silas Cliffora Love and Solomon Love, five brothers, four sisters. numerous relatives.
C C A Baker longtime Dothan resident died early today at 402 Fourth Avenue after a long illness. He was 75 and previously lived in Newville. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Center Church with Rev H M Givens of Slocomb officiating. Burial follows in the church cemetery Ward Wilson in charge. His sister Mrs Elia Ronay of Dothan and several nieces and nephews survive.
Washington journalist Eleanor Mealt Patterson known as Cissy, editor and publisher of the Washington Times-Herald, will receive private funeral services tomorrow at her home near Washington. She died Saturday at 63 from a heart seizure and will be buried Wednesday in Graceland Cemetery Chicago. She served on boards of the Chicago Tribune and New York Daily News and led the paper after her brother Joseph Medill Patterson died in 1946.
Slocomb Lodge No. 559 hosted the annual Geneva County Masonic conference with attendees from lodges in Southeast Alabama and Southwest Florida. C. E. Clowers of Andalusia represented Alabama Grand Lodge and led as district lecturer and committee chair. New officers include Candler Martin as worshipful master and J. C. Dorriety as senior warden. Plans noted three Florida lodges and delegates from multiple Alabama towns. Chicken and fish suppers were served at Slocombe school lunchroom.

A British jet propelled transport plane flew 213 miles from London to Paris in 34 minutes 7 seconds and back in 36 minutes 12 seconds breaking both-way record claims. The previous London Paris record was 41 minutes set by a British Lancastrian jet plane on November 22 1946.

Onas Stewart 43 of Labuco Minor was struck and killed by a train 18 miles northwest of Birmingham on Saturday night. A Birmingham attorney and four others were burned Sunday in a fire aboard a small pleasure boat near Panama City. The victims, Jerome Phillips and family, were residents of Birmingham. Malcolm and Burley were discharged after treatment. others admitted with injuries. Assistant Police Chief E R Brown said a flash fire followed refueling and the boat was a total loss.
