New York fire experts warn vacationers carry risk of deadly fires due to carelessness in July and August. Advice from the National Board of Fire Underwriters urges inspections on arrival, removal of debris, no fireworks, careful stove and fuel use, safe storage of gasoline and kerosene, readily available fire extinguishers, distant outdoor fireplaces, prompt contact with fire authorities, and careful cigarette disposal to prevent fires at cottages and resorts.

Dundee men sentenced to life for 1946 murder
Willis C. Mattox and Eriette Turk Alford, both Dundee residents, were given life terms for the murder of Cl oJ Griner a Dundee canning plant worker on January 16 1946. Mattox was convicted June 1 of second degree murder and Alford pleaded guilty to the same charge. Judge Don Regfer denied a motion for a new trial and the sentence stood. Attorneys said no appeal would be filed. Griner was shot and his body dumped near a grove outside Dundee.
