Houston Votes Wet By 1 058 Majority In 5th Referendum

In the fifth liquor referendum in twelve years Houston County went wet yesterday for the fourth consecutive time. Unofficial tabulations show 2 815 votes for continuation of ABC control and 1 757 against, a 1 058 vote majority for retention of the county's wet status. Dothan boxes voted 6 wet, 0 dry, with Beat Three leading wet results. Outside Dothan the wet majority grew, reversing prior dry expectations amid shifts in Beat Ten Ashford. Total votes 4 572. compares to 4 861 in 1938.

Ramseur Outlines City Extension Plan for Do Than North

City Engineer H M Ramseur completed a survey outlining a proposed expansion of Do than city limits. The plan adds areas along Headland highway West Main street Montgomery highway and the Central of Georgia railroad right of way. Boundary extensions follow Chamber of Commerce recommendations led by Archie Carmichael.

Mitchell To Address Farm Bureau Parley At Cottonwood

Mitchell, secretary of the Alabama Farm Bureau, will be the principal speaker at the Houston County Farm Bureau annual meeting at Cottonwood High School. More than 500 of Houston County's 1,400 families are expected for a day of speeches, singing, entertainment, a picnic dinner, and officer elections.

Police Search Rugged Countryside For Professor's Missing Daughter

Police and volunteers scoured wooded countryside near Camp Tabor for 3 year old Nadia Evans missing since Monday night from a summer camp. The daughter of MIT physicist Rob ly D Evans was last seen with a saddle nearby and hoof prints found on a dirt road two miles from the camp. State police suggested she may have left the horse voluntarily and headed toward a highway, while her father speculated she might be homesick and returning to Belmont Massachusetts.

Arson Charge Filed Against Dale Painter

Jesse Ralph Rice, 37, is held in Dale County jail on a first degree arson charge with $3,000 bond. He allegedly set fire July 7 to a four room house he occupied near Midland City, confessed after warrants were served, and cited marital troubles as motive. The house owner is Mrs. Roy Stourh. Rice remains jailed until the August grand jury.
