Longest Sustained Airplane Flight Ends in Tragedy

John and Kenneth Hunter set a world record with a 553 hour 41 minute flight in the City of Chicago at Sky Harbor, but a clogged fuel system caused a fatal crash upon descent. The brothers died along with others after the burnished event sparked a chaotic scene as authorities tried to secure the aircraft and field.

Willie Powell a seven year old Negro man lay seriously wounded in a local hospital. J K Whitten a white man was jailed on bond after the quarrel that led to shooting in Pheasant View. Powell suffered gunshot wounds from toe to arm and authorities say Whitten acted in self defense after being cursed and provoked.

July Fourth Toll Tops 178 Lives In Fireworks And Auto Accidents

The nation marked Independence Day with 178 deaths and many injuries from fireworks and automobile crashes. Sixty-seven drownings were also reported, while Chicago saw 275 treated for burns and several detonations causing serious harm. Two sisters and two young girls perished in separate accidents. Fireworks fatalities varied by region, with the Middle West posting the highest count.

Race riot at Emelle ends with deaths and arrests

A deadly race riot in Emelle Alabama left six known dead including two whites and four blacks with one lynching. A posse of about 200 searched for the slayer of G T Boyd as two white men and two negroes were killed in a house battle and a fire.

Attack on Adamsville man during Birmingham picnic

Detectives opened an inquiry into an assault on A. L. Trammell age 35 of Adamsville who was critically injured near his home during a Birmingham area picnic. His wife said three youths attacked him with a heavy lumber plank striking him on the head, with a possible skull fracture reported by hospital staff.
