Seattle AP report quotes Chief Specialist Feller saying baseball embodies American ideals and sustains troops overseas. He notes the sport gives soldiers something to dream of and maintains morale amid wartime duties.
Chicago police charged Charles Bohme a 40 year old factory worker with seven counts of murder after he confessed to setting 27 fires on July 15 and November 19 at the Lille Apartments, where two men and four women died and a girl perished escaping flames. He allegedly watched firefighters battle the blaze after setting a mattress in a basement.
In Pearl River swamp a concealed tree-top dwelling was found by Deputy J. T. Naugher and a second deputy. The hidden apartment contained ramrods, soap, coffee, sugar, food and cooking supplies, carpenters tools, and an air rifle. The occupant, a sandy haired young man, seemed to have fled before rising flood waters.
Operation progress cited with heavy Japanese casualties as naval patrol boats sink four troop barges near Leyte and two lugger vessels near Cebu. Mop up squads report 391 additional Japanese killed in isolated pockets on Leyte and seven captured.
Funeral rites for Mrs. C. C. Mrs John Padgett 43 former Miss Johnnie Butts died Saturday in San Francisco after a short illness. Funeral services were held in San Francisco. She lived in Dothan ten years with her aunt Mrs J Sanders and graduated from Bothan High School and Mills College Oakland. She was daughter of the late Mr and Mrs J P Butts of Boca Grande Florida. Surviving: husband Lieutenant Padgett a daughter Sally a half brother James Bulis and a half sister Susan.
The Dothan Chamber of Commerce calls for merchant and citizen proposals to shape a wartime program for 1945. Secretary Treasurer Arthur Johnson reports no plans submitted yet and only three days remain before the directors meet Friday to review the outlook and possible measures for the year. J H Bryson, Chamber President, had urged participation in framing the yearly program.
60 miles northeast of Budapest Russians fight inside the ruined city and report gaining 200 city blocks from German garrison. Dispatches say total liquidation of enemy in Budapest appears near as forces press along the Danube.

Quinton Ray Smith conductor of a merit club orchestra south of Dothan was injured when the car carrying him and four others left the highway about 12 miles south of Dothan. Smith, with a broken leg, was taken to a Dothan hospital. Names of others were not identified.
American Red Cross workers have packed 20 million prisoners of war food parcels and volunteers have made over 775 million esurpical dressings in the past year. By next March more than five million pints of blood will have been collected for the year.
