Production Returns To Normalcy After Strike At Cleveland

Cleveland wartime production resumed as army officers took over pending resolution of a city strike. War Department assumed control of the utility after 400,000 residents faced service disruptions. Authorities said factories were rebuilding a major part of tanks, guns, and planes, with 90 percent of workers back by morning. The regional war labor board and conciliation service moved to fix grievances and return to regular shifts. CIO and union leaders blamed the strike on a single steward and vowed disciplinary actions against noncompliant bodies under CIO.
