Farm Mobilization Lets Farmer Know Where He Stands
Washington reports a wartime unit formula to gauge each farmer s needs for manpower machinery equipment fuel and transportation under draft and rationing controls. By March 1 farmers will learn how much of their requirements can be met and plans will be revised if demands exceed supply. Sixteen units serve as the minimum for draft deferment, with examples listing dairy cows hens beef cattle and crops as unit values. The Farm Security Administration and agencies will use the formula to allocate scarce items and guide farm plans, with no credit given for luxuries and a goal of a 10 percent rise in livestock and equal crop acreage to 1947ready emphasis on high food value crops.
