Officers of the Club for 143 ail officers wives meet for regular luncheon set for Thursday in January. Mrs bush chairs caramities. Reservations due Wednesday by tele. Mrs Gordon Koons will depart tomorrow. Mr and Mrs O'Neal host relatives in Jaklin.
The Midland City Study Club met in homes of Mrs. W. A Parrish on Wednesday and heard an informative talk by Mrs J. W. Reed on Alabama Legislation. Treasurer’s report was given by Mrs Harold Curry. refreshments were served by Mrs RC Balkcom and Mrs Parrish.
A growing shortage of nurses prompted Mrs. LeBrute Hanahan to urge Dothan women to enroll in a Home Nursing Class starting at 9 30 am tomorrow. The course, guided by a registered nurse, will meet twice weekly with demonstrations to prepare women to care for civilians and safeguard family health amid wartime service demands.
UNIVERSITY, Ala. Capstone students enter a contest as defense stamp sales at dances raised 765 last year for the Veterans' Scholarship fund run by Mortar Board Quadrangle and the Defense council. The fund now totals 112671 to aid soldiers pursuing further education after the war. All contributions are turned into War Bonds and campus groups are donating bonds instead of favors. Students also give laboratory breakage deposits to the fund. Colombo, capital of Ceylon, was named for Christopher Columbus.
Mr. and Mrs Coller Freeman announce the birth of daughter Mary Ron at a local hospital on January 11. Mrs Freeman is the former Miorria Hardwick of Bloom. Mr and Mrs Henry Lurie announce birth of son Robert Gerald on January 1. Mr and Mrs Eldridge Moore announce the birth of son James Ralph on January 5.
Circles of the Methodist church held meetings yesterday to outline plans for the coming year and elect officers. Groups reported devotionals and social periods with pledges and dues collected. Several circles met at private homes on Foster Street and Newton Street with 12 to 16 members present. The Sixth District Nurses Association announced a Wednesday meeting at 3 pm in the Public Health building to plan the 1843 work program, urging all members to attend. Dr H D Harrison hosted visiting relative Anna Killebrew of Richmond Va.
Catholic Club met at Mrs Thornton's Seth Park Avenue home with Father John Bitch leading the opening prayer. Members discussed business, fundraising, and announced a spaghetti supper on February 6 while inviting Red Cross and USO involvement. Seven new members joined and regulars attended, with social hour concluding the event.
Mrs Will Harris entertained the B Hop E Sewing Circle at her Dusy street home Friday with members including Mrs A D Dixon Mrs J H Seay Mrs James Seay Mr George Cunning ham and Mrs Russell Parrish New officers were elected with Mrs George Cunningham as president Mrs Will Harris vice president Mrs B J Kent secretary and treasurer Mrs J H Beay flower committee chairman and Mrs H L O Neal publicity chairman The group planned to begin sending Red Cross scarves for men in service A social hour followed with games and prizes won by Mrs O Neal and Mrs Seay
The January meeting of the Do than Chapter UDC was held Wednesday at Mrs W Wilson home with Mrs W Yarbrough presiding. Mrs W H Bennett and Mrs N Blaum presented the program, including a paper on Matthew Fontaine Maury and a poem by Dr M A Fort. Mrs WT Burkett and Mrs W S Wilson gave a piano tribute, a note of thanks to guests and refreshments followed. Kathryn Lane left Sunday for Hendersonville NY to resume studies at Fassifern School while visiting Montgomery en route.
