Hardwick Denies Coe Claim of Salary Promise

State Senator W Guy Hardwick dismissed Clyde Coes charge that he promised to raise the Sheriff and deputies salaries in exchange for support of McAllister. Hardwick said he offered no such pledge and would not violate public trust. He noted Alabama law prevents salary increases for sheriffs.

Baptists To Meet At Ashford Tonight

Powell Street widening limited to unpaved section

City officials clarified that only the unpaved segment of Powell Street from North Oates to Montana will be widened and paved. The paved section from Montana to Orange will not be affected, and residents along Powell’s paved portion are assured no tearing up. City Engineer Ramseur is evaluating pavement options and costs with bids expected when weather permits.

Three Die in Crash Near Selma Alabama

A collision of two trucks two miles south of Selma on the Montgomery Camden highway killed J. L. Lane and his daughter Sara Jo Hubbell. Mintho Thomas a Negro of Selma died later. Rowell Chappell and John Munn were seriously injured. Hubbell was wife of an Army sergeant at Craig Field.

Woman Bank Robber Sentenced To Life

Opal Dixon 35 received a mandatory life sentence after an all woman jury found her guilty of bank entry with intent to rob the Des Moines Bank & Trust Co. on January 22 taking 2950. Henry W. Sweet Named State Docks Director in Alabama

Gov. James E. Folsom announces Henry W. Sweet of Bessemer as the new State Docks and Terminals Director at Mobile. Record Flight Sets 14 Hour 3 Minute P-82 Trip

Hog Prices Set New Record At Dothan Market

Blaze on Birmingham streetcar injures 19 passengers

A short circuit sparked a small fire on a Birmingham streetcar causing panic as 19 passengers were injured while leaping from windows and doors. Most injuries were minor though Ida Collins suffered an arm fracture. 10 remained hospitalized.
