Geneva farmers back clover crop tour in Geneva County
A large group of Geneva County farmers evaluated two fields of Dixie Crimson clover on C. B. Johnson’s farm near Geneva during a soil conservation tour led by J. K. Howard and M. M. Woodham. The crop, being tested in Geneva for the first time, is praised as hog feed, soil builder and cover crop with reseeding potential, though seed remains scarce and expensive. On the tour, Howard and Amason outlined essential practices including land quality, fertilization, double inoculation, and soil bed preparation, while noting grazing windows and seed timing depending on moisture. Dozens of farmers listed as growing clover in the county, with plans to expand.

FHA Aids Five Houston County Farmers With New Homes
Burleson reports in 1947 five farmers in Houston County received new dwellings through FHA loans at the courthouse in Dothan. Three frame homes and two concrete block homes, all with three bedrooms, cost about 3650 for frame and 2960 for block. FHA also aided four farmers with major repairs, including a remodeling job and room additions, despite high material costs slowing rural housing progress.
