Fire at the Dothan Oil Mill caused extensive damage estimated by officials. A hot box on the grain elevator is considered the probable origin. The sprinkler system helped limit the loss as the Fire Department fought the blaze for about four hours.

Public Service Commission to survey Dothan telephone service

Alabama Public Service Commission will conduct a four month expert survey of Standard Telephone & Telegraph company service in Dothan to determine needed improvements. City Attorney Oscar S. Lewis filed the complaint and the commission promises thorough investigation and coordination with city officials to bring service up to a proper standard.

Hodgesville Man Dies After Illness

George Watkins aged 58 died this morning at five o'clock in Hodgesville after a period of ill health. Cancer of the stomach was given as the cause. Survived by wife and six children Damon Raymond Jesse Hosea Johnnie and Mrs Cerrie Jenkins all residents of Hodgesville. Funeral services held today at the family home.

Scout Roundup at City Hall Draws Hundreds in Dothan

The fourth annual Cheetahwatchee Area council roundup drew several hundred Southeast Alabama and Northwest Florida Scouts to City Hall. Mayor Clem Ezell welcomed them as Eagle Scout Perry McLendon led the pledge to the flag. Awards included three Eagle Scouts John Van Landingham Jahanna Edwin Taylor and James Deese.

Moulton Man Detained in Avant Murder Case

Chief Detective Paul Cole says Robert H. Knowles of Moulton is held in Birmingham for questioning by the attorney general’s office in the Claude F. Avant murder case. Avant, Slover High School principal, was stabbed and found near the Florida Alabama line after vanishing September 23.

Officials of the Guanajuato Reduction and Mining Company say president C L Kurtz will appeal to the U S government after two engineers J M Underwood and another were killed by Mexican bandits.
