Dothan artists finalize a WCOA Pensacola broadcast plan with a balanced program despite funding limits. Complete School Survey Under Way in Houston County

An extensive survey by state educators is being conducted this week in Houston County. Leaders include Dr. A. T. Harmon Dean T. H. Napier Dr. E. L. Morphet R. E. Ledbetter Dr. R. Hodges and Dr. J. J. Riddles 2nd Ed. H. McGhee. The study covers school population buildings roads transportation and future building guidance.

Plane crashes on roof injures two in Easler Alabama

A Travelair biplane taking off from Roberts Field for Washington crashed into a house roof in Easler Birmingham area injuring both the pilot W L Leary and passenger Steadman Gunning. Gunning of Shreveport Louisiana is an announcer for KWKH. Leary escaped with minor injuries. The plane owned by W K Henderson carried affidavits for a hearing on wavelength differences between KWKH and KDOO Tulsa.

Police Collect Fines At City Court In One Day

Police yielded 708 dollars in fines plus 54 dollars in costs from one mayor's court session led by Mayor Ezelle. Twenty seven cases were disposed of and total police collections since October 1 reach 9647 dollars with an expected rise toward two thousand six hundred monthly average. The next Mayor's Court is slated for Friday afternoon and again Monday and Friday of next week.

Alleged Georgia Murderer Captured in Philadelphia

CPL Richmond County authorities moved toward Atlanta for extradition papers for W. W. Wood a fireman captured in Philadelphia Pa he is alleged to have shot and killed H. S. Wiley boss weaver at the Enterprise factory last Friday A tip said he was en route to Philadelphia where an uncle lives led to the arrest.

Man and woman to be quizzed in Alabama fire deaths

In Eufaula Alabama a man Clarence King of Elamville and Eunice Booth are jailed for questioning over the deaths of three Negroes whose bodies were found at a burned ruin. Police reject the sleep deaths theory and say the woman admitted to visiting the victims the night of the fire. Officials expect further arrests as investigation continues.

Pensacola Club Seeks Exhibition Baseball at Memorial Stadium

The Pensacola club of the South eastern League desires to play an exhibition game at Memorial Stadium with Dothan or another pro team. They seek a $250 guarantee per game and will consider a single game rather than a series. The proposal goes to the park commission which controls the stadium.

Five Killed and Dozens Hurt in Peoria Train Wreck

In Peoria Illinois today a train carrying 900 miners derailed from a 25 foot embankment near Hollis and four coaches caught fire. Five men were killed and twelve seriously injured with many more suffering injuries. Officials blame a broken iron bar that held the rails together for the accident.

Lindbergh began the first leg of an inspection flight along the Trans Continental Air Transports route to the west coast today. He reeled in at Paso Robles, California, after leaving New York.

Traffic rerouted north to Montgomery via Enterprise Elba Troy

Motorists from Dothan headed to Montgomery are diverted via Enterprise Elba and Troy because heavy rains render the Troy Banks section impassable. Crews are resurfacing the highway between Troy and Banks, with detours in place from Dothan to Brundidge and a seven mile substitute detour reconnecting at Rehobeth church. Weather will determine how long the Banks Troy closure lasts.

Slayers of Don Mellet among escaped convicts captured

Three of the five Ohio State Penitentiary escapees were recaptured within 24 hours. Pat McDermott the slayer of Canton newspaper editor Don Mellet Mike Jacko and Joe Rosso were taken into custody. William Young and James Walden remained at large.
