A report from Montgomery Alabama dated February 23 notes that a Black deputy internal revenue collector Wimbs has drawn disapproval from federal officers and white citizens. The piece cites alleged confrontations over licenses at several Montgomery spots and mentions an upcoming performance by Rowada Ladies Orchestra and All-Bar Specialty Company at 8:10 tonight.
A Coast Line engine broke down last night when a pipe burst on the line causing a delay to a train that was due at 10 40. The train did not reach the city until about 5 this morning. Another engine was dispatched from Montgomery to bring the train to Dothan and continue toward its route.
The Rounds Orchestra will perform at the Elite theatre tonight in Dothan under Class 95 auspices. Audiences praise the ensemble as a high class attraction that has pleased cities across the country. The Foster Street Methodist Sunday School hosts the event at the Fire theatre venue.
Geneva February 24 Fire destroyed the Geneva county courthouse last night causing about 25600 in losses fully insured. Origin of the blaze is unknown. All county records were rescued before the fire gained momentum.
Mrs. Harry Martin Riley of Ozark and party arrived yesterday by invitation to a Book Reception hosted by the City Improvement Club. They were guests of Mrs. W. C. Pritter who gave a fine dinner in their honor with Mrs. Gladys Hicks and several other ladies in attendance. After dinner they attended the Back reception.
A southern point of view Civil War drama features a scene where Union ammunition wagons are distracted by the gird py. Dixie will be played by Arthur Pryor's band with The Song That Reaches Heart. A Western Canadian drama Mualeat program at night by Mr and Mrs Bailey.
Mrs. Lil Nan Crawford Usrew hosts the City Improvement Club at a refined afternoon reception in a well appointed Dothan home. Honored guests Mrs. Harry Martin and Mrs. J. G. Riley of Ozark greet attendees as members and friends mingle to celebrate the club's third anniversary and the Library Association book reception, with scores of gifts donated and local speakers praising civic work.
Deputy sheriff W Crawford of Washington county Georgia tracks and captures Lewin alias Lewla after a lengthy chase spanning Sandersville and Albany. Lewin faced charges of assault and attempted murder, had previously escaped custody, and was finally detained with Hay and Crawford coordinating the capture near Dothan before being sent to Sandersville.
Rev Campbell of Troy lecturing next Thursday at the Elite Theatre on The City of Jerusalem on the Passa. The lecture, with Mr LR Keyton, follows a Middle East tour. Proceeds benefit Headland Avenue Hap History church fund. George H Griggs of Montgomery visited the city last night. Ward two of the City Improvement Club meets Saturday morning at Mrs Whiddon’s home.
