Harmony Club Meets Thursday With Cavalleria Rusticana Program

The Harmony Club holds its monthly program at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the Library. Mrs. F. M. Gaines leads the study on Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni and Mrs. Graham Carson will speak on the composer’s life. Mrs. John Hubbard narrates the opera story with musical selections including a piano Prelude by Mrs. W. C. Smith and an aria by Mrs. Graham Carson. Accompanists are Miss LeMerle Penn and Robert Livingston with Mrs. W. B. Whatley of Columbia. Hostesses are Mrs. Amos Jones, Mrs. R. R. Pettus and Mrs. Paul Anderson.

First Baptist Woman's Missionary Society Meets for Program

The First Baptist Woman's Missionary Society held an afternoon program at the church with ninety five members present. The subject was The World's People Today with talks by Mrs J H McMullan on Where Jews and Arabs Meet and Mrs J T Weeks on Two Ancient People. An open discussion on Our Work in Palestine followed. Mrs Graves Knowles led the closing prayer.

Southside P T A Meeting Reported

Mrs. Leon Redding led the program at the Southside Parent-Teacher Association meeting held Thursday at the school. Rev. J. N. Dendy gave the devotional and Mrs. H. V. Richey spoke on Founders Day. Mrs. J. G. Higgins presented a history of the group. A social hour followed with room mothers as hostesses. Girl Scout Troop Nine, led by Mrs. G. W. Blakey, held a cookout on Saturday at Miss Martha Speight’s rear lawn. The troop included Clare Stephenson and others from Midland City, Dothan, Slocomb route, and Lottville areas.

The Foster Street Methodist W S C S held a regular literary meeting at the church with Mrs. Morris Garer presiding. Southside Baptist W M S held a mission study at the church on Monday afternoon. The Lena Avery Circle led by Mrs Ww Avery presented talks on The Jews and Arabs in Palestine. Mrs Avery spoke on The Holy Spirit and other members spoke on The Jews as a Nation Arabs and The Jews in Palestine. Twenty six members attended. The Woman's Missionary Society of Headland Avenue Baptist Church met in circles Monday afternoon for mission study and meditation. Circles met in members' homes, with programs, prayers, and social hours. Nine members attended the Ida Keyton Circle. eight attended the Lottie Moon Circle. nine attended Anne Judson. eight attended Lucy Wood. five attended Willie Kelley. Members planned packing a clothes box for a needy local family and discussed community mission work projects.

Presbyterian Women Meet For Business Session At Church

The Presbyterian Woman's Auxiliary held a church business session with T E Buntin as presiding officer. A foreign missions total of 316.72 was reported for the Week of Prayer and Self Denial. Prayer Band Day will resume with monthly meetings on the fourth Monday. A nominating committee reported and new officers were elected.
