Giant Hartung Dawns as Eye Catcher at Giants Camp
Giants rook Hartung, six foot four and about 220 pounds, is the center of attention at Phoenix camp as he prepares for his first batting practice. Listed as an outfielder and potentially a pitcher, Hartung plans to focus on the outfield now with hopes of pitching later. Training notes also report early injuries and roster shifts across teams in Puerto Rico and New York, including DiMaggio’s heel and Etten’s back. Dodgers head to Havana as Durocher avoids discussing personal matters after arriving at La Guardia, while Cubs begin spring drills at Santa Catalina Island.

Official Says Fix Not Boxer's Fault
Philadelphia AP report quotes Frank Wiener former chairman of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission saying no boxer fixes a fight by choice. Responsibility lies with managers gamblers racket men and promoters. Fighters just follow orders while decisions can be swayed by judges. Wiener doubts Rocky Graziano knows who offered the bribe. He speculates the New York Commission revoked the license to intimidate him.
