Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone attended alongside Mrs Edison and Mr Edison. A Fort Myers band played. Members of the public sent congratulatory messages and tropical delicacies replaced milk and crackers.

Bacteriologist dies from parrot fever in Baltimore
Dr William Royal Stokes of Baltimore bureau of bacteriology died from psittacosis or parrot fever after contracting it while investigating outbreaks and handling infected birds. He fell ill a fortnight ago and was treated with serum by the health department, but relapsed. He served with the bureau since 1896.
