Unit Vote Foes Pledge To Carry Fight To People

In Atlanta Georgia legislators opposing Gov Herman Talmadge county unit amendment vowed to take the fight to the electorate and predicted defeat in the 1952 general election. Leaders cited the Senate debates on a uniform traffic code and bills on newspaper regulation and fuel revenue allocations as part of a busy legislative day. Antitai-Talmadge figures A N Durden and John Greer urged strong opposition, arguing the amendment would force a county unit primary for state offices and embed the system in the constitution. They predicted large anti amendment margins in 1952 and noted political turnover in 1953. Baxter Jones of Fair Elections said the group will use all means to defeat the amendment.
