Petition Filed For Commission Government In Dothan

Proponents filed a petition with Probate Judge EH. K Martin to establish a commission form of government in Dothan. More than 600 signatures were listed, with signers declared qualified voters. Judge Martin has until February 15 to verify signatures before certifying voters. Poll tax payments rose with 75 percent of paid voters from the city. After certification the mayor must call an election within 40 days.

Walker proposal on school funds killed in committee

Montgomery February 2 The senate committee on constitutional amendments defeated six to four the Walker plan to reapportion 4 million dollars of public school funds by educational need rather than by school population.
